Malavika Venkatsubbaiah is Bharatanatyam practitioner, performing artist, choreographer and educator, and the founder, artistic Director of Natyam Dance Academy, nurturing artistic excellence amongst the new generation of artists. Recognized for her technical excellence, she breathes freshness into her works with creative thinking and insightful choreography and has carved a niche in bringing high caliber south-Aisian dance to Alberta. Her solo and collaborative works have been presented at many prestigious venues in Canada, US, UK and India. Her credits include choreography for Indian Music Ensemble, Dept. of Ethnomusicology at U of A, a collaboration with Edmonton film-maker Shreela Chakraborty and slide guitarist - Grammy nominee Pt. Debashish Bhattacharya, several workshops at Victoria School of Performing Arts and a commissioned outreach theatre workshop with Azimuth Theatre.

Malavika spearheads the Natyam Ensemble building a wonderful team of new generation professional dancers. She is the current recipient of Individual Artist Project Grant from Calgary Arts Development Authority and is also recognised with Cultural Diversity Arts Award from Edmonton Arts Council, ‘Konark Nrithya Ratna’ award and the ‘Nrithya Saradhi’ title.
